Resourceful!!

I got out my wheat grinder yesterday to replenish my supply of wheat flour, and discovered the small round filter that fits on the top of the canister was missing. I spent hours tearing apart drawers and any other place I could possibly think of that I may have put it instead of the box where I always put it! But, no luck. I got online to see if I could order extras from the manufacturer, but of course, the company is out of business, my wheat grinder is no longer made! So, I really would not have to spend hundreds of dollars on a new grinder because of a little filter, would I? My resourceful husband said I'm sure we can find something to use in it's place. On a trip to Lowes we grabbed an employee and tried to explain to him what we were looking for, as he stood there looking at us with a completely blank look on his face, then, we finished and waited expectantly for his expert answer. And, he scratched his head for a minute then came the words, try the outdoors department and go look at the lawn mower air filters. WHAT? Welll, we dutifully rambled over to the lawn mowers, and sure enough, there on the shelf was a package with a square of the same material my filter had been made of! We brought it home, cut it into the proper size circle, but uh oh, it was twice as thick as needed to be. WAIT, my ever resourceful husband asked for my bread slicing knife that has the ability to cut every bread slice the same size. He used that and ever so slowly sliced through the circle of foam, making it exactly the thickness it needed to be, and giving me two of them. Plus, we have more of the material left in case I have several more episodes of senioritis!! THNK YOU LOWES SALESMAN for your creativity, and THANK YOU ED for your resourcefulness, I am back in the wheat flour business again!

The Deal of the Day!!!

I went to CVS tonight to pick up a prescription and on the way out of the store noticed a table of clearance items priced at 90% off original price! Using my CVS "Extra care bucks" credit of 4.50, I bought 10 spools of Christmas ribbon for 30 cents each, and 3 rolls of extra wide Christmas paper for 59 cents each, so paid a grand total of 18 cents for all this stuff!!!

"What Are You Trying To Do...?"

How many times did I say to my kids as they were growing up, "shut the door, are you trying to cool off the whole neightborhood, the air conditioners running", or "shut the door, are you trying to warm up the backyard, the heaters on!" Way too many to keep track of, I'm sure! I just went out front to see if I could help Ed finish putting up the Christmas decorations out in the front yard, and look what I found, he has a portable heater next to him!! I just couldn't stop it before it came out of my mouth..."WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO, HEAT UP THE WHOLE YARD??" To which he replied, "No, just me, it's freezing out here!" I had to laugh, so Steve and Lidia and Abbey in ID where the high was 5 deg. today, and the Cox's in WA where it was a balmy 20 deg. at the warmest point in the day, it is "coldie" (as Cami would say) in Las Vegas too!

My Birthday...

Thanks to everyone for all the nice birthday wishes, and I am especially thankful for the protection from harm yesterday. Ed had flowers waiting for me when I got to work yesterday, then took me to my favorite restaurant in the whole world for a great birthday dinner! YUMMY!!

Holy Cow!

So much for a nice quiet birthday. I headed out a little while ago for a haircut appointment. Sitting at a red light waiting to make a right turn, watching oncoming traffic so I could turn on the red. All of a sudden I see a car in the middle of the intersection, right in front of oncoming traffic. I had no idea where it came from, but knew in a second we were all in trouble. An oncoming car tried to stop but had no chance, slammed into the car in the intersection, the impact sent the first car heading straight towards my drivers door, and the second car spinning straight towards the front of my car!!! I thought for sure we were all going to die today! The first car came to a stop a foot from my drivers door, the second car spun so close to my front end the water from the street is splashed all over the front of my car and my hood, but the car missed me just by a matter of a couple inches, and came to a stop. I called 911 then a couple other passers by stopped to help too. Needless to say, had to reschedule haircut and I think I need to go sit in a padded room till this day is over.

Decorating Disaster!

I started putting up Christmas decorations today. I was trying to put my pinecones and ornaments into my glass vase but the ornaments were stuck down into the box. I decided I could get my fingers underneath and try to push them gently out, but apparently I pushed a little too hard!! Two gold ones flew out of the box into the air and crashed onto the floor. Not a good start to the Christmas season!!
